The College of the North Atlantic Student Council is bringing the Provincial Sports Tournament back to the college. Seventeen campuses will compete in ball hockey and volleyball through March 24-25 in Marystown.

“One of the things we are supposed to do is to organize a sports tournament,” said Jamie Brace, the president of the student council at Bay St. George Campus. “It’s recommended to do every year.”

The previous Provincial Sports Tournament took place in Grand Falls-Windsor in 2007.

Mary Ellen Alexander, who coordinates the work of the student council and the students at Bay St. George campus, said this year the student council is doing a great job. She thinks the Provincial Sports Tournament unites College campuses all over the province.

“It’s nice to feel like one unity,” Alexander said. “It’s nice to feel you belong to one organization, which would be CNA (College of the North Atlantic).”

Bay St.George campus already has its volleyball and ball hockey teams. Joey Sibley, a film and video student at the CNA, is one of the students representing the Bay St. George campus on the volleyball team.

Sibley said he used to play volleyball in high school, but the College tournament will be his first opportunity to play it competitively at a provincial level.

“I thought I could just use some more physical activity in my routines,” Sibley said. “And my friend asked me if I would show up. So I decided to give him a hand.”

Sibley said everyone in the team is excited about the upcoming tournament.

“I didn’t spend a lot of time with people in my team but I assume they are a great bunch of people. I am happy to represent Bay St. George Campus.”
